Willem en Frieda

By far the best movie I have seen in a very long time (at the BFI 2023 LGBTQIA+ Film Festival). Many in the audience, including myself, were literally crying. This film is about Willem Arondéus and Frieda Belinfante, two queer Dutch resistance fighters during WWII. Willem got the death penalty.

Just before his execution on July 1st 1943, he said

"Zeg de mensen dat homoseksuelen niet per definitie zwakkelingen zijn."
(Tell people that homosexuals are not by definition cowards)

It is, of course, unbelievably sad that he thought this point had to be made.
  1. trailer (which is a bit tacky and not representative of the movie)
